Do Needles Hurt?
This answer could have a grey area but if I had to pick between yes or no, I would say, No. Most of us associate needles with syringes and these two are very different. Syringes are used to take out or put in liquid. Acupuncture needles are just thin and wedge in the skin. They are not tubelike, like a syringe so the sensation is different and most people don’t feel the majority of the needles.
Could Acupuncture help with neck and upper back pain?
Yes, In TCM there are many reasons for neck and upper back pain. There are also many acupuncture treatments and modalities that could help. Needling, cupping, moxibustion, and electric stimulation on needles could all help. We want to take good care of our neck because the neck according to TCM is “The Window to Heaven”.
Any recommendations for one’s first visit?
Yes, make sure to eat something and wear loose, comfortable clothing. Do not brush or scrape your tongue before your visit on the day of your treatment. We look at your tongue as part of our diagnosis. Looking at your natural tongue coat helps us see better the patterns for a proper TCM diagnosis. Also, filling out your new patient form at home before your visit would be beneficial with more time left for treatment.
What do you do with the needles after?
The needles are put into a sharps container and properly discarded. Every single needle used each treatment is sterile, properly sealed in its package and used once. No needles are to ever be reused.
